Milo’s Valentine Date Disaster

Milo had a very interesting weekend, to say the least. Not only did he go from having two dates, to no dates, for Valentine’s Day, he still doesn’t know exactly what hit him. Nancy News investigates…
Valentine’s Day is always a fun time in HandiLand, with cats winking at each other and trying to look their very best. Milo, who goes all out for Valentine’s Day every year, is no exception. This year, he had his eye on two very special cats. Lipgloss* and Sugar* had been Milo’s secret crushes forever. All he wanted to do was date on, but which one?
Lipgloss was very cute and always made Milo laugh. Sugar had a dramatic streak to her. She fought with Milo sometimes but for some reason, it only made him like her more.
With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, he decided to make two very sincere, heartfelt Valentines, one for Lipgloss and one for Sugar, and take them to school. He didn’t put any names on them and would decide at the very last minute who got the lucky Valentine. That’s always been Milo’s method for making big decision.
“I can see how that might be a little silly,” he says about it now, because hindsight is always 20/20. “I should’ve planned this one out better.”
At school on Friday the 13th — Milo should’ve known! — he finally decided to slip the Valentine to Lipgloss. He wanted a nice, sweet time, and didn’t want to fight with Sugar over something small. He wanted a drama-free holiday. The Valentine said:
Hey, it’s Milo. Meet me at my house tomorrow night, 7 p.m. Happy Valentine’s Day, Valentine!
He thought that was pretty charming. With one deep breath, he dropped the Valentine into Lipgloss’ locker and started off down the hall, feeling very confident that he’d picked the right date. All day long, Milo followed Lipgloss in the halls, wondering if she’d opened her locker yet and seen his note. She didn’t smile at him, she hardly even paid attention to him, though.
As the day wore on, he started to worry. Had he stuck the Valentine in the right locker? Now he wasn’t so sure. She would’ve said something by now!
Panicked, Milo took his second Valentine, an identical one to the first, and went very carefully over to Lipgloss’ locker. He made triple sure that he had the right place, then dropped it in the vent. What was the worst that could happen? She’d probably just get two copies of the Valentine. Twice as sweet, Milo thought to himself.
Well, Saturday night rolled around and Milo got ready to take Lipgloss to the movies and out to dinner. He put on his fancy hi-top shoes. He wasn’t nervous, not really, he knew his girl would show up.
Finally, at 7 p.m., his doorbell rang. Milo ran to open it and on his front steps stood… PETALS!
“What are you doing here, dude?” Milo asked. “I’m waiting for someone.”
“You’re the one who told me to come over.”
Milo wrinkles his eyebrows together. “No I didn’t, that was last Saturday.”
“Then what was all this about?” Petals stuck his hand in his pocket and plucked out a Valentine. Milo’s mouth dropped open in horror. He must’ve gone to Petal’s locker without thinking, seeing as he went to Petal’s locker every single day. Out of habit, he must’ve gone there instead of Lipgloss’ locker!
“Oh, it’s not what it looks like, I meant to put that in someone else’s locker.”
Just then, Lipgloss, his intended date for the evening walked up the path toward the house. “Milo?” she asked, seeing Petals. “What’s going on?”
“Oh, Petals here was just leaving,” Milo growled, and he shot his friend a glance. But it was too late. Lipgloss saw the identical Valentine that Petals was holding.
“Why does he have a Valentine, too?” she asked.
“It’s nothing, it was a joke, I can explain,” Milo stuttered.
This didn’t work. Lipgloss’ smile dropped off her shiny lips. “A joke? This was all a joke? You didn’t really mean to ask me out?”
She stood there on the path, wearing her prettiest Valentine’s Day date night outfit. Milo couldn’t think of anyting to say. How could he ever explain this?
It turns out he didnt’ have to. Lipgloss was too upset to stay and ran off into the night a moment later. He tried chasing after her but she wouldn’t turn around. Heartbroken, Milo wandered back to his house.
Petals dug the toe of his sneaker into the ground. “Sorry, dude, but I got this in my locker.”
“It’s not your fault.” Milo clapped himself on the forehead. “Next time, I’ll write the name on the Valentine.”
“Yeah, that’s probably a good idea.”
Well, now that Milo didn’t have anyone to court for the evening, he still had two movie tickets he’d bought.
“How about we catch the new James Paw, then some pizza?” he asked his best friend.
Petals smiled. “Sounds like a date.”
Hopefully Milo will learn some dating lessons for next year’s Valentine’s Day!

I think milo should get another chance with sugar and lipgloss so that they can get to know milo properly befor they start dissing him cus deep down I suspect he has a big heart and all he wants is to get a date.

What a sad story. it was also funny, though! I felt exactly like you did when I read it! Sometimes I get that feeling…. Like when I go to the movies and theres an emmbaresing part, I feel emmbaressed! ! I hope you can get Lip Gloss to go out with you next year! Sorry, Dude!

all the guys are nice to me. girls get mad call me sore loser say i need a new look. boys give me great trades girls dont and then they get mad. all the girls want my good clothes for boy shoes or boots. i have been trying to get a queen dress for months they wont trade it but they want my good dress and get mad. the boys given me movie star and rock star stuff for little stuff they are the best traders so i trade with them. i dont know whats wrong with some of the girls they are mean brats the boys are cool.
