Milo Practices His Cooking

November 25, 2008

With Thanksgiving almost upon us, many Cool Cats in HandiLand are brushing up on their cooking skills in order to help out in the kitchen. Milo is no exception.

When we caught up with HandiLand’s favorite Cool Cat, he was running around his mom’s kitchen with a whisk in one hand, a cookbook in the other and a wooden stirring spoon between his teeth. We asked him how long he’s been cooking.

“Ffffi fyeeee,” he said.

“Huh?”

He took the spoon out of his mouth. “Five years. I’m just getting really excited about it. Before, I’d cook pancakes with Mom or ice cream sundaes with Petals, now I’m actually learning how to cook real food stuff. Like egg scrambles and chicken.”

When asked if he’d like to be a chef when he grows up, Milo rolled his eyes. “There’s way too much cool stuff to be doing to just pick one thing. Honestly, I have no idea.”

Petals, who came over to help in the kitchen had a different answer after tasting Milo’s souffle. “He should definitely, definitely, definitely NOT become a chef,” Petals said between bites of food. “That idea is a little hard to swallow.”

Whether you’re a fan of Milo’s cooking or not, here’s the menu his family is cooking for Thanksgiving:

  • Turkey, of course!
  • Stuffing
  • Gravy with mushrooms
  • Sweet potatoes with apple and mini marshmallows
  • Salad with goat cheese
  • Brussel sprouts with bacon
  • Homemade biscuits
  • Apple pie
  • Pumpkin pie

Mmmm! Where do I sign up? When Petals sees me drooling, he shakes his head. “It might sound good, but believe me,” he says, “it ain’t.”

Milo gives him a look but before he can do anything, the soup he’s making on the back burner has a flare up. “Gotta get back to the kitchen!” he yells on his way to find the fire extinguisher.

What about the cranberry sauce? My mama makes the best cranberry sauce with cranberries, orange juice, cinnamon (not my sister), and cloves. She doesn’t put in sugar like it says to do.

It’s so good and even my mama can have a bite of it, at least I think she can. It’s gluten free, so she should be able to have it. You need that though!

    Poor Petals, no cranberry sauce.
