Milo’s Valentine Date Disaster
February 16, 2009
Milo had a very interesting weekend, to say the least. Not only did he go from having two dates, to no dates, for Valentine’s Day, he still doesn’t know exactly what hit him. Nancy News investigates…
Brush Up on Your Brushing
February 6, 2009
There’s nothing better than that nice, clean feeling of sliding your tongue along perfectly polished teeth or braces in the morning. Bye bye, yucky morning breath! Go away, froggy throat!
Not to mention, keeping your teeth and gums healthy is key to health for the rest of your body. Making these great habits now has been shown to make a big different in the future. The earlier you start caring about your mouth, the better.
Here are some tips for brushing your teeth the right way:
- Take enough toothpaste so that it is about the size of a pea on your toothbrush.
- Don’t just stick with the teeth up front, those get enough action. Start brushing your back left or right top teeth, then make your way across your top teeth to the other side. Repeat the same thing on the bottom row.
- Brush the tops, fronts and backs of your teeth, especially the backs of your front bottom teeth — that’s where a lot of icky bacteria and plaque build up!
- Spend about two minutes brushing… that averages out to about 30 seconds per quarter of your mouth.
- If you need help, there are toothpastes that coat your teeth with color, showing you where you need to brush. Some cats really like having a visual aid!
- You can also get a toothbrush with an automatic two-minute timer so that you’re not guessing when it comes to how long you’ve brushed.
There are 1,440 minutes in a day. You can definitely take four of those to make brushing a healthy habit, morning and night.
Winter Elegance
February 6, 2009
Sometimes, Cool Cats like Missygirl082400 need a touch of glamor but not more. This simple but glamorous outfit benefits from beautiful red heels and the very popular Flapper dress. However, instead of using big hair and make-up, Missygirl082400 kept it simple and sweet with little pink bows.
This might not be the easiest outfit to go for a walk in, but she makes it great for an outing with her dog to the zoo! Not too fancy, not too plain either, this get-up is perfect, classy and chic enough for the park and the ball, all in one!
Butterfly Beautiful
February 6, 2009
Our Catwalk Cat this week is Blossum, a beautiful, colorful kitty butterfly! She matches the green in her yellow and orange wings to the green of her top and pants, as well as to the yellow and orange in her daisy sandals.
The backgroud is a perfect choice, so is the lotus flower she holds in her hand. Her name is Blossum, after all, a fun way to spell a “blossom” or flower. Winter this year has been long a dreary, so Blossum is a shot of pure spring sunshine in HandiLand.
Househunt: Sunshinepop
February 6, 2009
This week’s House Hunt favorite is Sunshinepop, who has put together some really fun rooms as a tribute to her friend, Chloe33. The room pictured in the snap above is Sunshinepop’s main room… and you could call it a bedroom! Not just because a cat might sleep there, but because it’s got beds a-plenty, all up next to each other.
The room below is a fun use for the garden-style room. Here, it’s a cool obstacle course with bounce houses, pools, and beds in the middle to make a sort of jungle gym! And it’s all dedicated to one of our House Hunt favorites, Chloe33.

Naming your room after a friend or using a theme is a great way to get your house noticed. Until next time, we’ll be House Hunting!
A Visit To The Motherland
February 6, 2009
While Ski Bunny was off sunning her tail on the beach, our favorite princess, Anastasia, took a quite different trip. It turns out she hadn’t been back to her home in St. Petersburg, Russia, since her family was chased out of the palace. In fact, in St. Petersburg, people think she died like the rest of her family did.
“My daddy was the king,” she told me via a long distance call. “And the people simply didn’t want a single king for a ruler. They wanted to be ruled by many people, they wanted a change in their country.”
“So what happened?”
“My family, we ran to our dacha, our summer house, out in the country. We hoped to wait out the change in government and the revolution, but people found us.” Here, her voice choked up with emotion, her faint Russian accent still noticeable, even after many years in exile. “In the middle of the night, they found us and they took us from our home.”
“What did they do?”
Here, Anastasia drops off. “Well, the funny thing is, I don’t remember. I remember us hiding the stables with the horses, then nothing. The next think I remembered, I was here, in HandiLand, going by the name ‘Ana’ and attending the Garfield Academy. Isn’t that wild?”
“When did you find out who you really were?”
“In history class, the teacher was talking about the Russian Revolution and how one princess was never found. Our book had a picture and I almost fainted in class. That princess looked exactly like me!”
“Oh my gosh!” I gasped. “I’d love to find out I was real royalty. Being the Gossip Queen is very nice, but imagine being in charge of a huge country like Russia!”
“Well,” Anastasia said with a laugh, “I’m not exactly in charge. When I came back, people didn’t believe me at first. Then I told them all about my childhood in the palace with my parents, my brothers and sisters, all of who I miss so very much. Then people started to believe me.”
“Now what?”
“This was a short visit, my first, but people have been so welcoming, that I’ll definitely go back. I was so scared to come, but being myself was enough to convince people. They’re happy to have their princess home!”
What an inspiring and royally cool story! Now I can add a Russian princess to my list of friends, and you can get the inside scoop on her life. That’s all for meow!

Ski Week Switch
February 6, 2009
This week I got a call from one of my very best friends who was enjoying her ski week break from school. “So, how’s the snow up there?” I asked, already knowing full well that Ski Bunny would be… where else? A ski resort!
She gave me a huge shock when she giggled in response. “I’m not at the snow, silly! This year, I’m spending ski week at Cathattan Beach!”
“What?”
“Yeah. All that snow just got so cold. You know what? I’m getting kind of sick of hot chocolate and draping my socks and long johns on the radiator every night. There aren’t jackets warm enough for some of the coldest days on the mountain,” she complained. “I thought I loved being a ski bunny, but that’s because I didn’t know about beach bunnies yet!”
“But what about your passion for skiing?”
“Skiing?” she laughed. “Are you kidding? I don’t ski or snowboard or ice skate or sled or toboggan or do any of that frosty stuff!”
This boggled my mind almost to the point where I could speak (rare, I know). “But… but… you’re… the… ski… bunny,” I stammered.
“GQ, you know me better than anyone! It’s not snow sports I’m after, it’s all those cute ski and snowboard cats out there on the slopes!” Ski Bunny said with a dreamy air in her voice. “But you know what?”
“What?”
“There are even cuter guys at the beach… and they’re not all covered up in bulky snow jackets! Yum!”
That’s our Ski Bunny for you. Maybe now she’ll be the new Beach Bunny of HandiLand. We’ll see how she feels when she comes home from her school’s ski, er, beach break! That’s all for meow!
XOXO
