Fairytale Bliss

December 18, 2008

Every once in a while, we here at the Catwalk like to keep it simple. Glamorous. Easy. With three clothing items, Eileenvalentin does just that. This almost makes us feel nice and warm, like we’re somwhere where you can wear a nice pair of shoes, a pretty black dress and really let your hair down… instead of bundling up with mittens and a hat.

We also love the Rapunzel hair because it’s totally outrageous inside HandiLand… other Cool Cats notice when they see you passing by. You command just a little bit more space than the one square you usually have to stand on. If you don’t have this hair yet… trade for it today!

Packing Groceries Is In the Bag

December 8, 2008

The holidays are full of great food, good times and lots of fun with friends and family. They’re also full of something else: grocery shopping. The more family get-togethers there are, the more shopping you and your family will probably do.

Here’s how you do your part and help bag groceries. There’s definitely a wrong way to do it. Here’s the right way:

  • Choose the right bag. Paper is good for most things, but choose plastic if you’ve got food that could leak or frozen food. As it gets warmer, it’ll get wet and could weaken a paper bag.
  • Pack frozen items together, putting the heaviest items — a frozen chicken or frozen cans — at the bottom. They will keep one another cold on the trip home.
  • Put fruits and vegetables together.
  • Bag meats and poultry in a separate plastic bag before putting it with other groceries.
  • Put 6-8 cans at the bottom of a bag, no more than that.
  • Put bread and eggs and other fragile items near the top.
  • Put non-grocery items like cleaning supplies or toiletries in their own bag.

When you’re done, do a simple test: Can the bag stand on its own? If so, you’ve done a great job.

Hey — did you know? Cities like San Francisco have outlawed plastic bags in grocery stores. Customers either get paper or… bring their own reusable bags!

Art Is the New Black

December 8, 2008

There’s nothing like walking into an art gallery and being transported to another place. Not physically, of course, but in your imagination. That’s what the best art does for me, anyway. It totally makes me “travel” to other places and think new things. That’s why I love Kitty D’Angelo’s work so much.

Her gorgeous new show, Travels of the Spirit, opened up at HandiLand Gallery this weekend. It was soooo good. She showed classic paintings like her Queen Portrait and Gondola Canal, then wowed the crowd with some totally new, totally modern work.

“Your new stuff is like nothing you’ve done before,” I told her after I literally had to wrestle her away from a crowd of fans.

“I know, do you like it? I was worried that it’s too out there, too different from my other stuff.”

“Oh no,” I said, “I love it. It’s great. You just do what you gotta do and people will understand. The important thing is that you do what’s creative for you.”

“I guess you’re right.” Kitty shot me a smile. “That’s always the way it’s been for me. I was lucky that people in my life told me to follow my creativity and do art, even if not everyone thought it was practical.”

“Well, you sure are proving those haters wrong now, aren’t you!”

Kitty laughed. “I sure am.”

And, better yet, I even bought one of Kitty’s brand new paintings to hang in my room. How awesome is that?! I’ll have to get a picture. It is totally gorgeous. So for all you artistic Cool Cats, keep doing what you’re doing! That’s all for meow!

XOXO

Volcano Explosion!

December 8, 2008

No, I wasn’t trapped in a volcano explosion. I sure as heck wouldn’t be here, writing this, if I’d been toasted to a crisp by molten lava hurtling 30 miles into the air. At least, that’s what my research assistant says happens when you’re in the very wrong place at the absolutely, positively wrong time.
