Don’t Make a Rake-t

November 25, 2008

There’s one fun thing about the fall. It’s not tests in school or the chilly, bitter cold that creeps up, even into the warmest jackets. It’s the leaves! The leaves change colors and turn the air fragrant with their smell. Fall is wonderful!!! But then, the leaves do that thing they do in the fall. That is, they, um, fall. And that’s the not so nice part, because you’re the one who has to rake them up.

Here are a few tips for keeping yourself cool and breezy when you’re raking leaves:

  1. Start on one side of the yard and work toward another side. If you keep walking from one part of the yard to another, you’ll track leaves to places you’ve already raked.
  2. Pick a wind-less day. Even a little bit of wind while you’re raking could blow your pile away and spoil your hard work.
  3. Jump in the leaves first, then rake. Don’t rake your big leaf pile up and then jump… you’ll make a mess! If you want to jump in the leaves and play, rake up a small pile first. You won’t feel too bad destroying it and messing stuff up again.
  4. Make little piles. Make a bunch of little piles in your hard while you’re raking. This means you won’t have to drag the leaves too far to a big central pile. Once you’ve made a bunch of smaller piles, rake those together in a central location.

There you go. Now you’ll rake smart instead of raking hard. And don’t forget that tip about jumping in the leaves… you’ve got to have your fun, too!

House Hunt: Cheeky1210

November 25, 2008

Worldwide domination is the name of the game when Cheeky1210 gets involved. She’s put together a bunch of different cities, from New York to London to Paris, to create a globetrotter feel that you just can’t get with most houses.

What does this tell us about Cheeky1210? She’s always up for new adventures and is excited about seeing the world that’s beyond her own backyard. That’s the kind of Cool Cat we’d hang out with any day!

Until next time, we’ll be House Hunting.

What’s All The Buzz About?

November 18, 2008

I was walking in the woods of the Country the other day when I heard the loudest buzzing ever — it sounded like some kind of freaky lawn mower/jet engine combination. While any normal cat would run quickly in the other direction, I simply had to take a look. Imagine my surprise when I saw what looked like an alien with a huge, mesh head wearing a white potato sack oufit! Now, I really should’ve run in the opposite direction, but I kept going.

If it really was an alien landing in HandiLand, I wanted to be the first to break that scoop, believe you me!

Well, luckily, just as I was about to welcome the crazy being with a rowdy round of “Greetings, Alien, welcome to HandiLand,” the alien turned around and… it wasn’t an alien at all! It was Brenda Busybody, HandiLand’s chief beekeper. Whew!

“Brenda! You scared me! I thought you were an extraterrestrial being!” I told her.

“Is it the outfit?” she asked.

“A little bit.”

“Well, maybe you can give me a makeover sometime, but right now, I’ve got to rock these beekeeper duds.”

“Oh yeah? Why?”

“Well,” Brenda looked at me with a proud smile, “I’ve been working on somethin very special. It’s right over there…” She pointed to a small hill about twenty feet away. It certainly didn’t look that special. This wasn’t turning out to be the amazing scoop I’d hoped for.

“What is it?”

“It’s the biggest beehive in the world.”

“Huh? Really? It’s only like, two feet tall.”

“Ah-ha! But the rest of it, you see, is underground. It goes down two stories, like an underground car garage. And guess what?”

“What?”

“It’s got two million bees!”

Now, normally I’d REALLY run the other way, but this was a great find and I had to stay put. Two million bees? That had to be a record of some kind. I’d get my story after all. “Seriously?”

“Oh yeah.” Brenda practically beamed under her beekeeper mask.

“And what are you going to do with it?”

“Well, I think I’m going to come out with a brand new line of sweets. I think I’m going to call them: ‘Gimmie Some Sugar, Honey.’ What do you think?”

“I absolutely love it!” I told her. “With two million bees, I think there’ll be enough honey for everyone!”

With that, I prepared to leave Brenda in the forest to tend to her honeybees. Then I remembered something. “And, oh yeah, meet me at JCat next week. We’ll do something about that makeover. White is totally OUT this season.”

That’s all for MEOW!

XOXO

HouseHunt: Pokemon~Champion~2008

November 13, 2008

Now here’s the kind of creativity that we like to see at the House Hunt department of Cool Cats Magazine. This was a snap we took recently in Pokemon~Champion~2008’s house. This is his super-popular place to hang out. We look at it and though it was cool… until we noticed this detail.

Not only does Pokemon have a cool house, his cool house tells a story. He’s put his Parisian statue facing his superhero statue. The two are checkin’ each other out. That just fires up the imagination, doesn’t it. Think about it… a superhero meets a beautiful French can can girl… what do they stay to each other? Where are they? What are they going to do next?

Do we like that story? Oui! It is very interesting to imagine what Pokemon must’ve been thinking when he set this up. While we might never know, we do know that we love a house with a story. And this house tells a really cool one.

Until next time, we’ll be House Hunting!

HouseHunt: My Loves

November 13, 2008

There’s nothing we like more than applauding a Cool Cat with a cool house for a job well done. Now, this isn’t My Loves’ first time on House Hunt. You’ll find her in our archives under another name. It is, however, a completely different house that she’s given us for our enjoyment.

Check out the awesome colors she’s playing with here. There are a lot of tans and ark oranges. Everything matches, even though she’s drawn from several collections. The living room has an element of fun mixed in, with the bear rug and the drums, as well as a touch of pure elegance with the chic Parisian couch, the lamps and the giant picture window.

If we were My Loves, we’d grow up and be an interior decorator and do this for a living. Congrats! Until next time, we’ll be House Hunting!

Gangster Chic

November 13, 2008

This is a really cool outfit from Cool Cat Chloe33. She pairs a pretty masculine looking tuxedo-style shirt with a fetching, dramatic fedora hat. The look is fetching! The only burst of red anywhere in her lipstic… until you look at her skirt and shoes!

She’s rocking the flmenco skirt, red details on her shoes, even a red popcorn bag. This outfit caught our eye because it’s full of different extremes. She’s got masculine and feminine details, colorless white and then juicy red and a white, pale cat with a burst of bright red lipstick. Overall, very stylish. We applaud Chloe33 for taking a risk, it really paid off.

Halloween Style Any Time

November 13, 2008

Yes, we know Halloween is over, but we’ve got one Cool Cat here who’s rocking the dark, moody style of Halloween clothes all year rounds. RebeccaTcatty has put together an outfit fresh from a meeting for vampire motorcycle riders! She’s got the leather vest, black pants, chunky boots and… of course… the Kitty Woman gloves!

Even her hair is black. Can anybody guess what her favorite color is? It’s pretty cool that she was able to find an entire outfit with absolutely no color. Using just one color has a fancy word, it’s called “monochromatic.” Can you guys find any monochromatic wonders in your Dressing Room?
