Hi-ya! Ommmm

September 29, 2008

Karte Kat is one fierce feline on the mat. He’s been doing martial arts his entire life, ever since he was a little kitten. But hours and hours of kicking bootay and breaking boards in half with his hands, it’s hard to imagine Karate Kat relaxing.

I went to one of his competitions the other day to marvel at his quadruple black belt skills. The coolest move he did was running up the wall and catapulting over his opponent’s head! Like a ninja!

After he got his first place trophy and posed for pictures with some squealing Cool Kittens, I cornered him on the mat. “How do you stay so calm?” I asked. “If I had to bounce off the walls and break stuff with my arm, I’d be wigging out and totally stressed!”

“Well,” he said, “the ‘kara’ in ‘karate’ means to cleanse your mind and concentrate. That’s mostly how I do it, but…”

This sounded juicy. “But?”

“Well, I’m also kind of a sucker for yoga.”

“Yoga? Like the thing I do at the gym with all my Cool Cat girlfriends?”

Karate Kat blushed. “It’s not just for girls, you know. In fact, all my karate friends use yoga to chill.”

Far out. I’ve been so busy running around HandiLand that I could use some ommm myself. Not like I’m about to go breakin any boards in half, but a little yoga couldn’t hurt. That’s it for Meow!

Clean Your Closet the Cool Cat Way

September 29, 2008

Alright, Cool Cats… it’s time to roll your sleeves up and tackle one of the biggest messes facing most rooms: the closet! This messy place is super tough to keep clean because it’s what we like to call a “shove-away” area. It’s out of the way and, when you’re in a pinch and it’s the last thing on your list, most Cool Cats are tempted to shove the rest of the mess in the closet and be done with their cleaning.

Here are some tips for de-cluttering the biggest clutter space:

  • Clear out clothes. This is the hardest thing to do because we all love our clothes and don’t want to let go of them. But if you don’t wear them, they’re just making extra mess. If you haven’t worn it in six months, hand it down to a sibling or donate it to charity!
  • Box or shelf? There’s a lot of clutter in most closets. The best place to put it is either in a box or on a shelf. Boxes are neat, easy to label and stack up nice. Shelves are for stuff you use more often and want to get to. Decide how often you use some of your closet clutter… box up the stuff you don’t use and shelve the rest.
  • Fix hanger hang-ups. Hangers tend to go empty in your closet or fall to floor when you yank something off them. See how many hangers you need and use and put the rest somewhere else.
  • Add smart Savings Goals. Create a custom Savings Goal and ask your parents for one nice set of plastic drawers or a shelf. Put this on the floor of your closet to help you get organized.
  • Just shoe it! You may want to get a hanging shoe rack for your closet to clear a lot of floor space. There are great racks that hang from the closet rod or from the back of the closet door.

This is the nastiest chore, but not one you have to do too often if you do it right and if you keep it up!

Mitzy Meowerson… HandiLand’s Next Top Model?

September 23, 2008

You will never believe what happened to our good friend and HandiLand hip girl Mitzy Meowerson. The queen bee of HandiLand Academy, Mitzy has been the most popular girl in school FOREVER.

Last fall, she tried something new for the HandiLand Pageant… chemistry! I couldn’t believe it either when I heard it. And guess what? She placed second in the pageant again. Well, I had it on good authority that she was retiring from pageants and pretty girl stuff forever.

“Yeah, I’m totally done,” she told me when we ran into each other on the street in front of J-Cat, one of her favorite places ever. “Pageants didn’t make me feel good. And if it doesn’t make me happy, then why do it?”

Then, the other day, when she was trying on a Breakfast Beauty dress for fun, I hear a model scout ran up to Mitzy and offered her a modeling contract. A. Modeling. Contract.

Where did Mitzy Meowerson get all her good mojo and where can I get some?

Looks like coming in second in the HandiLand Pageant was absolutely no problem for this lucky gal. Just another daily reminder to keep looking gorgeous and keep an eye out. No one knows when good stuff is coming their way. That’s all for meow!

How to Concentrate on Homework

September 16, 2008

With Back to School already a distant memory and everybody diving into the wonderful world of homework and pop quizzes and PE class and sports practice and lunchtime and cafeteria food and friends, we thought it would be time to include a list of tips to help all the Cool Cats out there in their school environments.

Here are some friendly productivity tips from your friends at Cool Cats Magazine so you can finish your homework and get back to chores and HandiLand:

  1. Turn off your distractions – you know the ones: TV, music, video games. If you don’t see or hear them, you’ll focus better on homework.
  2. Do the hard stuff first. You need to finish it first so you don’t have to worry about it later. That way, you’ll be done with the big stuff and you’ll have your easy stuff to do later, when you’re tired.
  3. Reward yourself. Just like in Handipoints, it helps to have some sort of motivation. Whether it’s some video game or screen time, ask your parents to help you find a reward if you’ve got a tough project to do.
  4. Fall back on friends – if nothing else fails, ask them how their projects are going. You’ll be able to commiserate together.

Takin’ Country to Heart

September 16, 2008

This is what we like to see! Little Buttefly got so into the recent Country release that she’s dressing all country, just for us, and we love her for it!

How cool is this costume? Seriously! Didn’t seeing the brand new Country put you in a Country spirit? We know it put us in one yee-haw, square-dancin’, cowboy-boot-tappin’ mood! What other cool Country-themed costumes can you think of? Does anybody have the Country Music Star costume from the On Stage Catalog? Whip them out and celebrate with us!

Rok~And~Roll Me!

September 16, 2008

Here at the Catwalk, we’re always lookig for guys who put a cool spin on the clothes in the HandiLand catalogs. When we found ~Rok~Star~, we were tickled pink! Or, should we say plaid! And karate jacket! And afro!

With the cool black and white background and seventies afro, ~Rok~Star~ gives his outfit a vintage retro feel by using the karate robe and the plaid pants. Not to mention, he matches his gloves and pants. Can’t you just see ~Rok~Star~ starring in some seventies action flick?

~Rok~Stars~ get their reputation from doing whatever they want to do. By not caring what other Cool Cats think, ~Rok~Star~ has proven his rock star status!

Ever-Glad At the Everglades

September 16, 2008

Nope, that’s not a picture of your humble travel companion, the Roamin’ Rambler. It’s my travel buddy Roamin’ Roger. And we almost got a tails snipped off by Bobby Gator. That’s the one in the picture. And he lives in a very interesting part of the world: the Florida Everglades.
